Mission

The Iranian American Neurological Association, comprised of Farsi speaking Neurologists practicing in the United States, is dedicated to the following:
A- improving the knowledge and skills of Farsi speaking  colleagues to achieve success in academic and non-academic activities.
B- Bettering patient care by refining the knowledge and skills of Farsi speaking neurologist colleagues
C- Revamping public awareness about neurological diseases, disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation among the Farsi speaking population.

Committees' chairs

Neda Zarghami Esfahani, MD

"Resource Creation and Allocation"

Dr. Zarghami grew up in Isfahan and studied at the Isfahan university of medical sciences before moving to the United States. She did her neurology residency at the University of Iowa, where she founded a clinic for MS patients. She later went to Seattle for a fellowship in MS and has joined Kaiser Permanente, where she is taking care of patients with multiple sclerosis and similar disorders. She works out for at least 20 minutes daily and enjoys doing this at home with her son. In addition, she stays mentally and physically healthy by eating healthy (more protein, fewer carbs) and connecting with friends, and going on trips with friends and family. She also has a passion for painting and loves to read good books.


Alireza Noorian, MD

"Clinical Neurology"

Dr. Noorian was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, and came to the United States in 2007 for specialty training. He completed a medicine internship in Baltimore, a research fellowship, followed by specialty clinical training in neurology at Emory University in Atlanta. His passion for stroke care and research brought him to UCLA, where he had a vascular neurology/stroke fellowship. He soon realized that he was going to call Southern California his home. He has been taking care of neurologic conditions with a focus on stroke in Orange County for the past nine years.


Vahid Behravan, MD

"Community Education and Media"

Dr. Vahid Behravan received his medical degree from Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran; he later completed residency in neurology at University of Kansas and Stroke Rehabilitation postdoctoral fellowship at Kessler Foundation. Dr. Behravan is a board-certified Teleneurologist and serves as the Director of Community Education at his place of employment; he enjoys calligraphy, painting and music in his free time.


Farinaz Safavi, MD PhD

"Scientific"

Dr. Farinaz Safavi received her M.D. degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences followed by a Ph.D. degree in Neural and Behavioral Science from State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn. After graduation, she joined department of neurology at Thomas Jefferson University as a research fellow working on immunopathogenesis of neuroinflammatory diseases in both mouse model of neuroinflammation and human immune cells. She then moved to New York City to complete her neurology residency training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and finished her clinical training by a clinical fellowship in neuroimmunology and neuroinfectious diseases under supervision at NINDS. After completion of her clinical training, she was selected for the transition program in clinical research to establish a program on the role of genetic and acquired host immune defects in nervous system. She is currently chief of NeuroImmunopathogenesis Unit in Laboratory of Clinical Immunology and Microbiology(LCIM) at National Institute of Allergy and Immunology (NIAID,NIH).


Sanaz Attaripour Isfahani, MD

"Planning and policy"

Dr. Sanaz Attaripour Isfahani earned her medical degree at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran. She completed a residency in neurology at Drexel University in Philadelphia and a fellowship in movement disorders at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. She is a board-certified neurologist at the University of California, Irvine, treating patients with various movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, and teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. She enjoys trying new gardening techniques, hiking, and movies in her free time.
